  • bailiwick - a person's specific area of knowledge, authority, interest, skill or work
  • hardscrabble - providing or yielding meagerly in return for much effort
  • sarcophagus - a stone coffin
  • fiddlesticks - (used to express impatience, dismissal, etc.)
  • at loggerheads - in dispute with
  • fisticuffs - a cuff (blow with open hand) made by the fist, a.k.a. a punch
  • lucubration - laborious work, study, thought, etc. especially at night
  • sinuous - having many curves, bends or turns, winding; also indirect, devious
  • foofaraw - excessive or flashy ornamentation; also, a fuss over a trivial matter
  • scuttlebutt - gossip; rumor
  • galumph - to move in a clumsy manner or with a heavy tread
  • hirsute - covered with hair; set with bristles; shaggy; hairy.
  • rigamarole - an elaborate or complicated procedure
  • hobbledehoy - an awkward, gawky youth
  • hopscotch - to journey quicky and directly from one usually far place to another (I liked this because I had no idea it was anything other than the game)
  • harrumph - to express oneself gruffly
  • hoodwink - to deceive or trick
  • akimbo - with hand on hip and elbow bend outward
  • zugzwang - a situation in which a player is limited to only detrimental moves
  • durststillend - German brewing term that translates to "thirst quenching"
  • ululate - to howl; to wail
  • grotesqueries - grotesque quality or grotesque things collectively
  • canard - a false or unfounded report or story; a groundless rumor or belief
  • arachnid - a bug with eight legs
